Qualifications and Application

Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, MBBS, DMD, DDS, PharmD, DNP, or equivalent post-doctoral degree. The program accepts applicants from the Orlando VA Healthcare system, VA affiliates, the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, and Nemours Hospital.

The 2024 class will graduate on December 11, at 12N. The graduation ceremony will be located in the Lake Nona VA auditorium, 4th floor, clinic building, 13800 Veterans Way, Orlando, 37827. Join us to meet and congratulate the graduates.

The application process for the 2025 class will start on January 15, 2025. Interviews will be conducted in April and May, and applicants will be notified in June 2025. Classes will start on August 20, 2025.

Classes are held virtually or in person (on Orlando VA and UCF campuses) once every week or once every other week, via Zoom. Periodically, classes are also held in person. Individuals who want to attend just a few classes are discouraged from applying as the educational activities for each class build on the previous class. Because the content is connected, it is difficult to understand and catch up by attending intermittently. Research career development comprises a significant portion of this program, thus preference will be given to applicants who:

  • are part of a fellowship training program and for whom research training is a requirement

  • interested in clinical research and need assistance with grant development and establishing a research career

  • have already completed some pilot research and are interested in expanding to a larger grant o funded project

  • have academic appointments that include teaching research methods to students / residents.

A certificate of completion is awarded only to participants who attend >80% of classes and assignments, and a passing grade on the final examination. Additionally, learners affiliated with the VA will be able to receive continuing education credit through the Orlando VA Talent Management System (TMS).To attend this course,  you must have your supervisor’s signature agreeing to protected time if your clinical duties go beyond 4:00 PM. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. For access to the application, see the link above.

NOTE: Clinicians who cannot block clinical time to attend class for the duration of the program are discouraged from applying. All applicants with clinical duties will be asked to provide a letter of support from their supervisor.
